Madrichim Update 10/4/15

The madrichim program is up and running! The teens are so excited to get into the classrooms, but first we are spending time learning and developing the skills they will need to successfully support the students and teachers in the classrooms. The teens are learning how to help foster joyful and meaningful learning experiences for all students.

During our first Madrichim Training we explored what it means to grow as a community of learners and role models. They brainstormed what the word “Ma

drichim” means to them, and how they want to be seen as madrichim. We named our core values and developed working definitions and descriptions of them in the context of classroom experiences. The teens engaged in a variety of experiences to help them envision and empathize with challenges experienced by children with disabilities.

In the coming weeks the teens will explore typical child development, learning styles, disabilities that affect learning and behavior in classroom settings and strategies for supporting a wide range of learners.

I was so impressed by our first training. These teens are so enthusiastic and compassionate, they are going to have a huge impact on the students they work with this year!
