Grade K - Gan Class Update 3-11-18

Hello Gan Class Families!

It is so exciting that we just moved the clock for Daylight Saving's Time and now we have more sunshine to enjoy during the afternoon and evening hours.  I know it was hard to loose the hour of sleep but the Gan Class students were able to have an excellent day even with less sleep than usual.

During Tefilah we helped our Bet class friends to prepare for their upcoming Kabbalat Siddur celebration which is taking place this Saturday.  We acted as the congregation as they led some of the prayers we have been practicing all year.  To prepare for Passover, we have begun to review the 4 Questions and the order of the Seder with Cantor Ken.

We were so excited to have Bar join us in class today.  Due to vacation, we hadn't seen him in a long time.  Today he shared with us about Mount Carmel, which is located near his home in Israel.  He showed us some of the animals that live in the area which include the wild boar, jackal and porcupine.

The Torah story we enjoyed today was about Abraham and Sarah.  They were too old to have children but had been told that they would have more descendants than there are grains of sand in the world.  One day, three strangers were walking by and Abraham invited them to their camp.  They were offered food and water and were treated well by Abraham and Sarah.  As a thank you, the strangers shared that Sarah would soon have a son.  She laughed because she thought she was too old to have a child.  The strangers were right, Sarah had a son who was named Isaac.

Our new letters today were gimel and pay.  Gimel makes the sound g- and begins the word glidah which means ice cream.  Pay makes the sound p- and beings the word parpar which is the word for butterfly. We only have a few letters left to learn!

Sela's mom was our Mystery Reader today.  She read two really great books and brought a special treat to celebrate Sela's birthday.

Next week we will be making some centerpieces for the Shabbat Dinner on March 23rd.  We will enjoy a new Torah story about Abraham and Sarah's son Isaac and we will start our study of Passover.

I hope that we will see you for Synaplex Shabbat taking place this Saturday morning.

Have a wonderful week!

Michelle
