Madrichim 2018-2019

12-9-18

The Madrichim are discussing learning styles and how they differ in the classroom. Each Madrichim was asked to find out their learning style and how they see that style being addressed in the Hebrew School classroom. "My style of learning was visual.  An example of a visual learning style is watching a video or using pictures to learn a lesson.  One example of visual learning that I saw in the classroom was Margie reading to the kids with picture books to help the kids understand the story and to keep the engaged."
- Justin Linden.

12-2-18

My learning style is visual learning. Visual learning is when one uses graphs, charts, diagrams, and maps to learn. An example of visual learning is using a map to learn how to get to one destination from another. I learned something new about the way I learn because now I know I learn visually. In the kindergarten classroom we are making a visual representation of the Hanukkah blessing. This can help the kids learn the blessing through  visualization.

What is your learning style and how does this help you in the classroom?

After taking the survey, I discovers that my learning style is tactile/ kinesthetic. An example of this is taking notes in class. I tend to write notes on what is written in a textbook or on the board, it is easier for me than writing what was said. I am not always a fan of all hands on learning, but it does have a big presence in the Hebrew classroom through the new Hebrew through movement curriculum. I both enjoy the activities and think it helps the students learn a lot of new Hebrew words.- Ari Klawans

What did you hope to gain from being a Madricha? I enjoy doing this (4 years now) and I enjoy being in the Jewish classroom. My students make me happy- Bina

What did you hope to gain from being a Madricha? I want to learn how to work with a variety of ages. Last year I was in the 4th grade classroom and now I am working with 3rd grade. What a difference!!- Naomi

10-7-18

What I hope to get out of my Madrichim experience is:

I hope to become a better teacher and connect more to each of my students.  I want to engage each of the students in the lesson so they gain a better sense of appreciation for Jewish learning.

Madrichim Update

This Sunday Madricha Rachel Greenburg set up a Passover scavenger hunt for the 3rd grade class. Each team had to find clues around the social hall to spell out Pesach. They also had to battle some plagues along the way (frogs, darkness, blood). The students did great and had such a fun time. Rachel's activity was very creative and provided a wonderful movement break opportunity for the end of the day. Great Job Rachel!

Madrichim Update

The learning never seems to stop in the Bet class, with very few letters yet to learn. I have had fun getting to know the individual students and how they learn and their learning styles. For example, some students will sound out a word, letter by letter, vowel by vowel, then put it together. Others will look at the word as a whole for a few seconds, and then say the word out loud once. I, or anyone else in the classroom will have to be able to work off of that to make sure that the read the word correctly. I have also started to brainstorm ideas for an activity to lead later this spring.

Madrichim Update

We have been having a lot of fun in the bet class! As a madrich, I have learned that the kids in the classroom are all very different, in their speed at and excitement for learning. I have slowly gained more confidence in the classroom, but I have sometimes had a bit of trouble knowing exactly how much control I should have over certain matters. For example, what to say will happen if kids talk too much. The energy that the second graders have is often through the roof, and that is sometimes a challenge, but I think it's better than them having no energy!

Madrichim Update

The third grade class has continued to impress all of the teachers with their Hebrew reading skills and abstract thinking abilities. I am excited to be able to plan my own lesson for the students, as they are always eager to try new activities.

Madrichim Update

The children in the fourth-grade class have different learning styles: some really like having visual aides, some love hands-on activities, some love games and some love worksheets.  All of the children are always excited when Bar comes to the class, and they seem very interested in learning from him since he includes all of their learning styles. I have been having so much fun working with the class. They are all such great individuals and have taught me so much about helping children to both learn and to pay attention.

Madrichim Update

The Madricha continue to discuss learning styles and how every child learns their individual way. They will soon brainstorm ways to teach creatively based on those individual needs and how to apply these ideas in their classrooms.

I will work on getting pictures of them or at least the group when we meet.

Madrichim Update

Happy Hannukah! The second-grade classroom is, as always, full of fun and energy! We have been learning a whole lot of Hebrew letters, reading stories, and learning about holidays, particularly Hannukah in the last few weeks. I am impressed with how good their Hebrew reading is getting in just the past few months. I have had a lot of fun, and look forward to coming every week!  -Ari Klawans

Madrichim Update

These past few weeks the third graders have been practicing their beerkot hashachar in class and tefillah. We have also been having conversations about courage and miracles. As a class, we have started our new bucket filler activity where the kids write compliments about each other and get to take them home at the end of the day.-Rachael Greenberg

Madrichim Update

This month in Margie’s 2nd grade Hebrew school class, we worked with the students on learning the Hebrew alphabet. They started to learn to recognize vowels and write some simple words.  It is really interesting to speak and play with the kids in Hebrew.  I enjoy interacting with the kids during class, especially hearing their stories during snack time. I look forward to teaching them about Hanukkah and seeing their excitement as we lead up to it. It is a great group of kids.

Madrichim Update

The Kindergarteners have been focusing on learning their Hebrew letters with me. They have also been learning about Shabbat and made kiddush cups, candle holders, and challah covers. They loved that doing that project and enjoyed putting jewels on their candle holders. They also made a spice box and learned about when shabbat ends and doing havdalah with a special braided candle. We have been trying to focus on not being silly while learning in class. I have enjoyed being a Madricha in the Kindergarten class! -Bina Landis

Madrichim Update

Hi everyone!  I'm Ari Klawans and I help in the 2nd grade classroom, the class been learning their Hebrew letters and being able to make words with them. The kids are so full of energy and for the most part, having fun learning about Hebrew, the holidays, and Israel. It is very fun to ensure a group of kids that likes being Jewish, and wants to have fun being Jewish. We have been making cards to help remember the letters, and using to make words. Sometimes, I will help a student learn the letters that they missed while they were out. Even though I have been late a lot because of play rehersal this fall, it is most definately worth coming for what I can. -Ari Klawans

Madrichim Update

Hello everyone! In these past weeks both the grades I help out with, first and third, all the kids have been doing wonderfully! In the first grade class, we are learning the Hebrew letters and the sounds that they make. Third graders are learning to read words in Hebrew and combined the sounds to make words. Overall the kids are very good at learning and being nice to their peers and teachers.

I hope this is what you were looking for! If you want me to add more you can just ask!

Madrichim

Madrichim- The past week, in my class we have been learning about the past and upcoming holidays. I have helped the Kindergarten kids start to learn their Hebrew letters. The kids loved coloring leaves that were put up in the sukkah. I have been learning how to keep  kids on track and paying attention to what they are learning. I love working with the Kindergarten kids there are always so happy and excited to learn. One of the key lessons we have learned is, even if people are different they have similarities between them.  -Bina Landis

Madrichim Update

My name is Justin Linden and I assist Ms. Margie Matross with the 2nd graders on Wednesdays.  There are five children in the class, 2 boys and 3 girls.  They get along very well as they always laugh at each others jokes.  The kids are all very energetic and sometimes need a reminder to stay focused on the lesson.  However they show great enthusiasm in class and are very fun to teach.  They seem to really enjoy the active lessons where they can get out all of their energy.  I really enjoy teaching at the Hebrew school and feel that I have learned great new lessons on patience and how to teach to younger children.

Education Calendar

Shalom!  Shalom!  Shalom!

I am pleased to share with you the TI Education Calendar (as of 8.15.16) for this coming year:

We have worked together to place all events: Grade Level, Youth Programming, Shabbat, School Days, Holidays etc. in one place with the hopes that this will be a useful reference throughout the year.

Of course, sometimes plans change.  Please always watch for emails with updated information.  Publicity about each program will arrive in our weekly constant contact and in an email 2-4 weeks prior to an event.   My emails always contain up to date information and coming events.  Anything in yellow on the calendar means it's been updated since we initially put it on the calendar.

We're about to kick-off an exciting year.  We're continuing to pilot new programming with the arts in the fall and in the spring and I am thrilled to introduce you to several new faculty members and welcome back many familiar faces.  Bios coming soon and letters arriving soon by mail to the kids.

Our year kick's off for Kitah Bet-Zayin/Grades 2-7 on September 13 and 14 with outdoor fun (thank you to the Men's Club). Kitah Gan and Kitah Alef/Grades K-1 we will greet you on Sunday morning, August 18.

Since registration was online, our class lists are also online!  I am sharing with everyone a link through which they can open a list of the students in the grades they have children in.  Please let me know if information for your family is inaccurate or needs to be changed.

Enjoy these last weeks of summer and stay cool!
